GARMIN International introduces its first series of GPS-enabled handheld devices for the Family Radio Service (FRS) and high-performance General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) markets – the Rino Series. These GPS devices integrate radio functionality to provide two-way communications up to two miles using FRS channels and up to five miles using GMRS channels.

Inspired by the distinctive offset FRS and GPS antennas that give the devices their Rhinoceros-like appearance, GARMIN designed the Rino series as powerful, robust Radios Integrated with Navigation for the Outdoors. They are also the only waterproof two-way radios on the market.

What really separates the Rino from the rest of the FRS herd is the ability to "beam" a user's exact location to another Rino user within a two-mile range using the FRS spectrum. This important feature is called Peer-to-Peer Positioning and is an important safety feature.

Rino 110 
In its bright yellow case, The Rino 110 is a GPS-enabled handheld that integrates radio functionality to provide two-way communications. It's waterproof, can send communications up to two miles using FRS channels, 5 miles using GMRS channels, and can "beam" your exact location to another Rino user using "Position Reporting". And because the Rino 110 has standard FRS/GMRS capabilities, you can talk to friends or family who own conventional FRS/GMRS radios.

Rino 120
The olive-colored Rino 120 takes all the features of the Rino 110 and adds a basemap of North and South America that includes major cities, highways, thoroughfares, rivers, lakes, coastlines, state and national borders, and railways. The Rino 120 has eight megabytes of internal memory for downloadable cartography from GARMIN’s exclusive line of MapSource CD-ROMs – providing topographic, bathymetric, and street-level map information. It also incorporates a voice scrambler for secure communications and a vibration mode for "silent" calls from other Rino users.

Rino 130
The Rino 130 has a built-in electronic compass, barometric sensor, weather receiver for seven NOAA weather channels, and 24 MBs of internal memory. The Rino 130 also has a polling feature, which allows a user to manually request GPS location information from other Rino units.

Rino 520 and 530
Garmin takes a step further with the introduction of the Rino 520 and 530. No matter where your outdoor activities take you, the Rino 520 keeps you on track and in touch. This rugged, two-way radio with GPS packs a bold color display, 14-mile communication range, and turn-by-turn directions — giving you peace of mind in the great outdoors.
